Alexander Lopez

Age 70 ,of Highland, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025. He is survived by his loving son, Alexander C. Lopez; ex-wife and caregiver, Lydia Lopez (nee Koremenos); brothers: Antonio (late, Lynn) Lopez, Alvaro (Maryann Becich) Lopez, and Arnold Lopez; sister, Rosa Oliver;  many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including dear cousin Martha Rodriguez; and precious pet, Gidget. Preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Aurelia Lopez; and brother, Alfredo Lopez.

Alex was a 1973 graduate of Morton High School. He answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Airforce and proudly served his country.

Alex went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Indiana University—Bloomington. He then embarked on a long and dedicated career at ArcelorMittal, where he worked until his retirement and met his good friends Roger and George.

Outside of work, Alex had a passion for music and found great joy in playing the guitar.  He was also a dedicated athlete, once wrestling downstate during his youth. He was a man of strength, not only in character but in spirit—having undergone two kidney transplants, he remained a symbol of courage and perseverance.

Above all else, Alex's greatest pride and deepest joy was his son. His son was everything to him—his light, his motivation, his heart. Watching his son grow into the man he is today was Alex's proudest achievement.

Lydia and son Alex family extends heartfelt thanks to all their family, friends, and neighbors for all their continued love and support-especially the Koremenos sisters, whose care and compassion meant so much to Alexander.

A Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave. Schererville, IN. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 26 at the funeral home with Tim Spoelman officiating. Burial to follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, IN.
