Alexander Medwetz
age 89, of Hammond passed from this world on June 15, 2016 at Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana. Alex was born in East Chicago, Indiana on January 20, 1927 to Michael and Ida Medwetz. He attended East Chicago schools before enlisting in the US Navy where he was stationed in Banana River, Florida as an aviation radio operator. He met his wife, Rose (Carbonare) Medwetz, on a blind date and was married on August 19, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in East Chicago. Alex worked as an Oil Rigger, retiring from Amoco's Whiting refinery in 1992.
Alex is survived by his children, Deborah (Bob) Sanders of Orland Park, Illinois, Rebecca (Eric) Baskin of Valparaiso and Jeff (Kim) Medwetz of Longmont, Colorado; and his prized grandchildren, Stef Sanders, Grace Medwetz and Sophie Medwetz. Alex was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years in 2012.
A viewing will be held at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home & Crematory, 14 Kennedy Ave, Schererville, Indiana on Friday, June 24, 2016, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. A final viewing will occur at 9:00am Saturday, June 25 followed by a celebration of his life at 10:00am. Interment will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Schererville.
