Obituary

ALITA ARLENE DICKOVER

age 72, a former resident of Otterbein, IN and Hammond, IN and a retired elementary school teacher, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014. She taught 33 years at Harding and Wallace Elementary Schools in Hammond, was active on the Northwest Family Services Board of Directors, Delta Kappa Gamma International Society, Lake Co. Retired Teachers Assoc., President of NW Indiana Concert Assoc. (formerly Hammond Community Concerts) 1993-2010, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hammond where she served as Chairman of the Coordinating Council, volunteered in the office, was a member of the AV Tech Team and the Wednesday Bible Study Group.

She attended Leadership Northwest Indiana training LNI#27 to enrich her leadership skills. She served as a supervising teacher for several student teachers throughout her career. She loved her pets Melody and Dolly; antiques, music, family and friends.

Born in Lafayette, IN she was raised and educated in Otterbein, IN and held a B.S. and M.S. degrees from Indiana University. Alita is survived by several cousins as well as many friends. Preceded in death by her sister Audra Rae Ezell. Contributions in her memory may be given to First United Methodist Church Memorial fund, Hammond Animal Control Medical Fund or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 25, 2014 at 10:00 AM at First United Methodist Church of Hammond 6635 Hohman Ave with Pastor Donna J. Beifuss officiating. Alita will be laid to rest in a private ceremony. Solan Pruzin Funeral Home & Crematory entrusted with arrangements. 219-322-7766
