Arun K. Goel M.D., of Schererville, Indiana, age 72, born in Bareli, India on January 1, 1944, passed away on December 13, 2016 peacefully at home.
Dr. Goel spent his childhood in England and India and chose to pursue medicine. He attended Maulana Azad Medical School from 1961- 1966, where he met his wife. They came to the United States for medical training at Case Western Reserve.
In 1973, they settled in Northwest Indiana to raise a family. He practiced interventional cardiology for close to 30 years. He was a pioneer in the field of coronary angioplasty and a well-respected pillar of the community.
Dr. Goel suffered a fall in March 2006 resulting in a spinal cord injury, which left him quadriplegic and ventilator dependent. He endured this condition with strength and grace, always placing the needs of others above his own. He enjoyed life the fullest extent with family and friends.
He was holding his wife's hand when he passed away.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Dr. Padam Prakash Goel and Mrs. Savitri Goel and is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dr. Sarla Goel, his loving son Dr. Rajiv Goel and his adoring daughter Malini Goel, J.D., and his therapy cat Tiny Tiger.
He is also survived by his brother Vipin Goel and sister Renu Agarwal and numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Dr. Goel was known for his wonderful sense of humor, intelligence, ease of conversation, selflessness, compassion for others, and his undying concern and love for his family. He will be greatly missed.
