Bernard J. Bock "Bernie"
age 84, of Highland, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016. Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Rose (nee Horn); proud sons: Michael (Nancy), Robert (Julie) and Steven (Susan) Bock; adoring grandchildren: Kristen, David, Jon, Lauren, Taylor, Sean, Grace, Matthew and Tess; sister Anna Marie (William) Horn; cousin Shelby (late John) Lofay; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his son David Bock, grandson Brian Bock; siblings: Francis, William "Bubby" and Emil Bock; parents William and Elfreda (nee Weiss) Bock.
Bernie was a graduate of Hammond Tech Class of '50 and retired from American Maize (Cargill) after 42 years of service. He was an active member of Rock Steady Boxing Hammond, a program for Parkinson's patients, at The Hammond Boxing Club. Bernie has been a parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church since 1953 and a member of Whiting Knights of Columbus #1696 for over 25 years. He was a respected and well-liked mechanical supervisor and a skilled machinist/pipe fitter. He was a lifelong White Sox fan.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 2:00-8:00 PM at the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home & Crematory 14 Kennedy Ave Schererville. A wake service will be held on Thursday at 4:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 beginning with 9:45 AM prayers at the funeral home for a 10:30 Mass at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church 3025 Highway Ave Highland with Fr. Edward Moszur and Fr. James Dvorscak concelebrating. Bernie will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Schererville. Donations in Bernie's honor may be made to The Hammond Boxing Club in support of Rock Steady Boxing Hammond.
