Bohdan "Bob" Balacky

Age 96 of Plainfield, IL, formerly of Dyer and Hammond, IN passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 27, 2023. He is survived by his daughter, Sonia (Douglas) Middleton; grandson, Alexander Middleton; brother Oleh, sister, Romka; and nephews, Vasil (Osanka) and Roman. Preceded in death by his wives, Mildred Balacky and LaVergne Balacky; and son, William (still living, Luba) Balacky. Bob retired from Version All Steel Press after 25 years of service. He was a member of South Suburban Wood Carvers, dedicated member of St. Michaels Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and was in the church choir. He loved his vegetable garden. Bob was also a Korean War Veteran and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM, with a Parastas Service at 6PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 7109 Calumet Ave., HAMMOND, IN 46324. A Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, June 3, 2023, DIRECTLY at St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 7035 Columbia Ave, Hammond, IN 46324, with Very Rev. Raymond Sundland officiating. Bob will lie in state from 9:00 AM until time of service. Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations to Wounded Warriors, DAV, or St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church would be appreciated.
