Carol Sedlak (nee Larimer) Age 79, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away on May 18, 2026. She is preceded in death by loving husband, Bill; mother, Margaret Glissman and father Harry Larimer.
She is survived by her loving cats, Sophia, Oofa, Mushka and dear precious 5 lb. Yorkie, Ozzie, her buddy. Her step-Sisters, Mary Paul of Florida, Lisa Weiland of West Lafayette, step-brother, Michael (Penny) Glissman of Minnesota; step-brothers Larry (Elaine) Larimer of Winter Haven, FL and Myron Larimer, Munster, IN; niece/caretaker Nancy Brazil (David); sister’s in-law, Anita (Bob) McCord CT, and Janet McDonald; many nieces and nephews.
Upon graduating from Hammond Technical Vocational High School, Carol attended The American Floral Art School in Chicago, where she became a floral designer at Solan’s Greenhouse in Hammond. Six years later she became employed by Amlings Flowers and Gifts on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, as a designer and buyer. Carol always had a love for art and music and was very creative. She was a self-taught pianist and organist. Throughout her adult life she played piano for many special events including parties, dinners, fashion shows, art previews at the NW Indiana Art Association prior to their relocation to Munster. Her calling read, “Pleasant Sounds from Carol’s Piano.” When she was 19, she auditioned for the position of organist at St. Joseph’s Church in Hammond where she served well for 30 years. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists, NW Indiana Chapter. She was the founder and creator of JESTERWICK TOY THEATRE, a miniature puppet production that portrayed fairy tales and Bible stories.
Carol filled her life doing everything she was interested in. When living in Munster, she wrote for the Hamond Times as their Munster Correspondent. She made the front page with a story of much controversy regarding the building of a new swimming pool at Munster High School. At one point she worked for the Salvation Army as a Case Manager in Hammond. She headed The Christmas Clearing House for several years, seeing that needy families within a 400-mile radius were sure to have Christmas dinner and gifts. At Carol’s request, there will be no wake, memorial or funeral service. Her family will honor this request. If donations would like to be made, the Humane Society, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine are suggested due to Carol’s love for animals.
Her last request was to leave an Epitaph that reads, “Make sure our Dear Lord Jesus Christ is your Savior.” He is magnificent!!
