Cheryl “Nonnie” M. Rosen (nee Macko) Age 79, of Highland, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, May 1, 2026.
Survived by loving husband, Gregory A. Rosen who called Cheryl “My Beautiful Bride” for 57 Years; devoted sons, Thomas Gregory Rosen, Michael Gregory (Teresa) Rosen, and Joseph Gregory Rosen; Nonnie to handsome grandsons, Dr. Michael A. Rosen (Dr. Jordyn Kisse) and Gregory J. Rosen; great Nonnie to adorable Sypha Valentina Rosen; and sister of loving brother, Robert Macko.
First born of and preceded in death by parents George and Louise (nee Gusic) Macko.
Chery attended Immaculate Conception and Sacred Heart grade schools in Whiting and was a graduate of Whiting High School Class of 1965. She was a member of St. James the Less Catholic Church, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. John's Rosary Society, and First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association Branch #81.
In the past she served at St. John the Baptist as a Eucharistic Minister, Pastoral Council member, and Wedding Ceremony Coordinator, and also a cook for a number of years at the parish rectory for the priests. After cooking for St. John, she then cooked for ten years for the priests and brothers of Calumet College of St. Joseph. She really enjoyed all of her duties especially cooking for the priests.
Cheryl wore two aprons; one for cooking and baking and the other a carpenter apron.
Cheryl loved house projects. In their first home in Whiting, Gregory her husband would come home from work and find a pile of lumber on the lawn. She loved updating their home. Cheryl and Gregory were a dynamic team designing and building their custom new home in Highland.
Cheryl will be remembered for her love of cooking and baking and the joy she experienced sharing her recipes with friends. An unexpected visitor always had a meal. She loved hosting parties and served an impressive menu. Her nut rolls, roshky, apple slices, homemade bread, and halupky were thumbs up, the best.
Her greatest joy was watching her three sons play sports. They had 18 consecutive years of baseball with Gregory her husband coaching many of them. Years later she was a big fan cheering on her grandsons.
Cheryl had many medical challenges beginning in the early years of motherhood. She was voice challenged for many years but the love of and for her family spoke volumes. Her strong devotion to Saint Pope John Paul II gave her comfort during her difficult times. She inspired many through her long journey, meeting each hardship with steadfast faith and remarkable determination. Her devotion to her family and her ability to remain a guiding example of grace and perseverance will be remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
