Obituary

Dale V. Blockland

age 75, of Portage, IN, passed away after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Dale is the oldest son of five children and is survived by his siblings: Judy (Thomas) Bullard, David (Maureen) Blockland, Dan (Debbie) Blockland and Dean (Cheryl) Blockland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Bonnie Blockland.

Dale was a kind and loving son, brother, and an incredible uncle. Standing six and a half feet tall with a thick beard, he looked like a lumberjack in his favorite flannel shirt. Though he was a big man, he was truly a gentle giant to his family. Dale grew up surrounded by his four siblings, a devoted grandfather, and caring parents. As a boy, he could often be found at the park shooting hoops with friends or knocking a baseball out of the park. When he sent the ball sailing, neighborhood kids would shout, "Game over!"

Dale loved watching sports and was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. He was fun-loving with a great sense of humor and beautiful smile. He looked forward to summer when he could start a vegetable garden and work in the yard.

Following in the footsteps of his late father, Herman, Dale fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a truck driver. He was proud to work for Goodwill Industries, embracing the job with great enthusiasm and dedication.

Dale enjoyed rock music, but the Beach Boys were his favorite band. He loved music with drumming. He found joy in spending time with his family, especially on holidays and in the summer with good food.

Most of all, Dale loved his family. He seldom missed a gathering and often showed up unexpectedly just to say hello. Known as "Uncle Dale" to many, he never missed a chance to tease his nieces and nephews just to see them smile. He was a jokester with a belly laugh that could fill a room, and his flannel shirt pocket often carried a treat for the little ones.

Dale's joyful spirit, generous heart, and unforgettable presence will be dearly missed and forever remembered. Rest in Peace.

Services were private and entrusted to Solan Pruzin Funeral Home.
