David H. Smithey "Poncho"

age 63, of Gary, IN was called by the Lord on Sunday, April 26, 2020.
David is survived by his loving mother, Barbara Smithey; siblings; Deborah, Terry and Edward; sisters, Suzi and Amber; daughter, Shannon M. Smithey Trotier and her mother, Belinda; precious grandson, Elijah; daughters Jessica and Ashley Smithey; love of his life, Maria Garza and her two sons, Sam and Carlos; dozen nieces and nephews and so many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends to name… but all were very loved by David. He was preceded in death by his father, Ollie Hugh Smithey; and brother, Jeffery Smithey.

David worked for Pepsi in Munster, IN. He will be dearly missed.

A limited visitation for David will be at Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN 46375 on Friday May 1, 2020 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.

With this in mind, and the public welfare and reverent care at the heart of our mission, Solan Pruzin Funeral Home is committed to strictly following all prevailing federal, state, and local mandates in suppressing the spread of COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus.  While restrictive to public gatherings and events, these mandates are for the greater good of our community and nation.

We are asking no more than 10 people at a time as requested by our Governor of Indiana. To maintain that, we ask families to wait in their vehicles in the front of the building and we will usher them in as other families paying their respects leave.
