Debra Lynne Swinford-Allender

Debra L. Swinford-Allender, age 66, of Highland, Indiana, passed away surrounded by loving family on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Debra is survived by her loving sisters, Cindy (James) Rodgers and Linda (Joe) Kartje; cherished daughters, Christine (Michael Takada) Allender and Holly Kraig (Raevyn) Helton; precious nieces and nephews, Christopher Swinford, Jenna (John) Gensic, Joseph Kartje, Ben (Lindsay) Kartje, Zach (Kirstie) Kartje, Alexa Kartje and Sophia Kartje; and beloved grand-nieces and nephews Mikan Gensic, Anica Gensic, Drexler Gensic, Finley Gensic, Neil Kartje and Noah Kartje. She will also be dearly missed by many extended family members and friends, as well as her beloved fur baby, Reggie.

Debra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Allender; parents, Barney Swinford and Kathleen Swinford (nee Abraham).

Debra dedicated more than 40 years of her life to retail management, where she was known for her hard work, kindness, and dedication. She also faithfully served her community as a crossing guard in Highland, a role she truly loved. The children she watched over each day became like family to her, and she cared deeply for every one of them.

A devoted volunteer, Debra generously gave her time to Izaak Walton organization in Griffith, Indiana, where she was especially known for her wonderful cooking at many of their events. Her meals, warm spirit, and willingness to help others will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

Debra loved spending time with her family and friends and cherished every moment shared with those she loved. She found joy in cooking, serving her community, and caring for everyone around her. Her loving heart, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to family and friends left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave, Highland, IN 46322, with Fr. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 9:30 AM until time of Mass. Services conclude at the church and entrusted to Solan Pruzin Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Debra’s memory to Izaak Walton, Griffith Chapter, roundup.org.

Debra will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
