Eddie Lopez, 75 of Highland, Indiana, passed away at his home on June 14, 2023, surrounded by family and loved ones.  Eddie was an athletic, active, funny and charming man who could always be counted on to be supportive of his family and friends.  He is survived by his loving siblings: Anibal Igartua Sr. and Naida (Ed) Quintela; nephews Anibal Igartua, John Igartua, and Zachary (Gabriela Mora) Igartua; nieces Margaret (Mark) DiGiacomo, and Sara Corpus; grandniece Stella Mora Igartua; in-laws, Alex Corpus, Myra (Brian Velazquez) Corpus, Armando (Francisco Silvares Vega) Corpus and Albert (Lori Noto) Corpus and devoted cousin Raymond Perez.  Eddie is preceded in death by his beloved wife of many years, Laura Angele Corpus and his parents Isabel Cruz and Gerardo Lopez.

Eddie was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico and graduated from Eastern District High School in Brooklyn, New York.  Eddie moved to East Chicago, Indiana in 1967 and had a lengthy career with the Inland Steel company.  Eddie was an accomplished athlete and tennis player.  He won multiple tennis tournaments and league championships.  He was a fixture at many of the courts and tennis clubs in the area and was always generous with his time to help coach and develop younger players.  Alongside his wife, Eddie loved to entertain and was famous for hosting house parties to celebrate holidays, birthdays, family events and sports championships.  Eddie was a big fan of movies, comedy, Tony Bennett, jazz, Tito Puente, salsa music, electronics, tennis, and the New York Mets.

Our Eddie was always a lively, very funny, entertaining man.  He could lighten up any event with his many jokes and amusing stories.  He also valued and worked hard at his relationships with relatives and friends. He did his best to make the most of every moment we were lucky enough to share with each other.  And although he may be gone, Eddie's legacy as a truly caring, committed and loving man will for sure, only continue to grow and grow.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday June 20, 2023, at Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Avenue, Schererville, Indiana.  Burial will be at 11 AM Wednesday June 21, 2023, directly at Ridgelawn Cemetery, 4401 Ridge Road, Gary, Indiana.
