Esmeralda “Essie” Lind (nee Garcia)

Age 86, of Crown Point, formerly of Hammond, IN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Esmeralda is survived by her loving children, Frank (Kathleen) Lind, Dawn (Thomas) Marciniak and Sheila (Kenneth) Young; precious grandchildren, Samantha (Kyle) Simzyk and Tyler Young; great-grandchildren, Odin Simzyk and Opal Simzyk; loving sisters, Juanita Rangel, Occie Cole and Delores Galan; in-laws, Tom Lind, Renee Marcus and Joan Jerome; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sgt. Theodore A. Lind Jr; mother, Maria Galan; sisters, Ermalinda Talarek and Francisca Fibiger; niece, Julianna Kolodziej.

Esmeralda attended Hammond Tech and Beauty School and went on to becoming a homemaker before later working at the Hammond Kmart. She found joy in simple things in life, especially painting, reading, and bird watching. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her great-grandchildren and treasured the special memories they made together. Her love, warmth, and gentle spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
