Obituary

Eugene E. Kobus

September 27, 1927 – July 11, 2021

Eugene E. Kobus ("Gene") of Highland, IN, formerly of Calumet City, IL and Munster, IN passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 11, 2021. Eugene is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorraine Kobus; loving daughters: Sharon (Randy) Michael, and Lori (Jon) Oakley; grandchildren: Valerie (Ben) Church, Annalise (Adam) Timaji, Colin Michael (fiancé, Harper Smith), Jacob Oakley, and Alex Oakley; and brother Clement (late, Norma) Kobus. Preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas Kobus; parents: Matthew and Barbara Kobus (nee Stefanski); and sister, Gertrude (late, Walter) Mertz.

Eugene was a 1947 graduate of Thornton Fractional High School. He joined the Navy and served his country in World War II as well as the Korean War. Eugene was a member of the American Legion #330 in Calumet City. He retired from Equifax after 35 years of service and spent many years enjoying his love of camping and boating at Sandy Pines in Michigan with his family.  Eventually he and Lorraine became "snowbirds" in Venice, FL where they loved spending time watching the beautiful sunsets at the ocean, going out to eat at their favorite restaurants, and playing cards with friends.  In his free time, Eugene was an avid lover of watching the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears, and his favorite IU Hoosiers basketball team. He also spent many hours a day with his headphones on listening to his favorite 1940's Big Bands and Ballads.  Above all else, his unconditional and devoted love for his family was like no other.  Although several hours apart, he would never miss a phone call from one of his daughters or 5 grandchildren. That's when the TV got muted and the remote was put down.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 31, 2021 directly at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8501 Calumet Ave., Munster, IN 46321 with Rev. Michael J. Yadron officiating. Friends may visit with the family at church from 9:30am until the time of service. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Calumet Area would be appreciated. Solan Pruzin Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.
