Gilberto "Gene" Reyes Roman

Age 65,of Hammond, Indiana, formerly of New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife just short of 30 years, Gloria; children: Thomas (Shelly), Jason, and Frances; precious granddaughter, Reina Gloria, who brought him endless joy; sisters: Elba Feliciano, Catalina Reyes, and Lydia Reyes; and many loving nieces and nephews he cared deeply for. Preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Roman and his father, Domingo Reyes Sr.; and siblings: Domingo Reyes, William Reyes, Francisco Reyes, and Gregorio Maldondo.

A hard working and dedicated man, Gene, for 27 years provided for his family through his work as a dock man, most recently with ABF Freight Company. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to those he loved and to God. Gene was a faithful member of Iglesia Shalim in East Chicago. He was an avid fisherman and a New York Mets fan.

A Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave. Schererville, IN. A Service Celebrating Gene's Life will be held at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, April 18, at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Memory Lane Memorial Park in Crown Point, IN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Reina Education Fund.

Gilberto will be remembered for his strong spirit, his quiet kindness, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
