Gladys T. Bakos (nee Marszalek)
age 88, of Hessville, IN, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Andrew; daughter, Sharon (William) Weissbeck of Schererville; grandchildren, Joshua, Emma, and Allison Weissbeck; sister, Rita (late Irving) Schubert of Colorado; uncle, Ray (Paula) Marshall of Illinois; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews all around the country.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 7132 Arizona Ave., Hammond, Indiana with Fr. Charles Mosley officiating. Gladys will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until time of Mass. A private burial will take place at a later date. Gladys was born October 16, 1927 in East Chicago, Indiana to Joseph and Blanche Marszalek. She was a 1946 graduate of Roosevelt High School. She was a long time member of St. Catherine of Siena in Hammond, Indiana. Gladys worked as a secretary for Edward Valve, and for a long time as an executive secretary for General American "GATX". In later years, she worked in the Linen Department for EC Minas, and Marshall Field's. She volunteered for many years in the gift shop of St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond. Gladys loved to play pinochle with her good friends. She enjoyed traveling, reading, socializing, and dancing. She always thought of others before herself. Gladys will be remembered by her family as the best mom and grandmother ever. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org, would be appreciated.
