Hector Rivera

age 61, of Crown Point, formerly of East Chicago, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. Hector is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Martha (nee Carman); children: Michael (Iliana) Rivera, Joshua (JoEllen) Rivera, and Cassandra (Josh) Bonneville; mother, Maria Rivera; precious grandchildren: Emma, Michael Jr., and Bryce; siblings: Richard (Anita) Rivera, George (Tina) Rivera, Milca (Tony) Flores, and Diane Rivera. Preceded in death by his father, Angel L. Rivera and sister, Gladys Perez.

Hector was a graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School. He dedicated 30 years of his life to serving and protecting his community as a member of the East Chicago Police Department, retiring with the rank of lieutenant.

Hector was deeply passionate about sports, particularly his beloved teams: the Cubs, Blackhawks, and Bears. He found joy in coaching his son's little league team and cherished the time spent working with the kids.

His family was the center of his world. He adored his grandchildren and was known for his unwavering love and devotion to his loved ones. With a good sense of humor, he brought laughter and joy to those around him.

In his spare time, Hector found solace in yard work, especially tending to his lawn. He was a man of action, always keeping busy and lending a hand with household chores, or any other task that needed attention.

Hector's legacy of service love for his family, and dedication to his community will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN.  A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 11, at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Memory Lane Cemetery in Crown Point, IN.
