Obituary

HORST (HAROLD) JOSEPH KRAUSE
age 87, of Highland, passed away Friday November 29, 2024. Harold is survived by his loving children: Mona (Jeffrey) Mauck, David (Karen) Krause, Steven (Sherri) Krause, Robert (Racquel) Krause and Michael (Kristen) Krause, stepdaughter Karen (Dick) Wood; 16 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren; brother Dieter (Gundi) Krause; sister in law Jean (Gary) Aschenbrenner, brother in law David Thrall;  many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Marylyn; his parents Ida and Joseph Krause, stepfather Marion Pigula; brother Armin Pigula; brothers in law Art and George Thrall.

Harold was born on May 24, 1937, in Bauck, Germany, was a WWII refugee/immigrant to the U.S., became a U.S. Citizen and proudly served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, which took him to Washington State where he met the love of his life, Marylyn.  He loved the U.S., and often talked about the freedom and opportunity he found here, that changed the trajectory of his life. Returning to Indiana, Harold became a Mechanic at Inland Steel, also improving the safety conditions there as Safety Inspector, and retired after 39 years of service. He was a resident of Highland for 60 years. Harold was a loyal Indiana University Hoosier fan, never gave up on the Chicago Bears and loved a round of golf with family or friends. He loved his canary Hase, who he spoiled every day with treats. Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior, he was a faithful member of St. James Catholic Church, and supported charities helping those in need.  Harold was a loving husband, caring father, devoted grandfather, and doting great-grandfather. He was always there for us, no matter what, and his legacy of love, hard work, integrity and family first can be seen in the next generations. We will miss him dearly!
