Iona Nalewski nee Oakley
Age 88, of East Chicago, late of Hammond, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, January 9, 2017. Iona is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 67 years Stanley; children: Mickie (Jeff) Stur, Kathy, Stanley R., Patti (Eddy) Centkowski, Judith Ann Rutovic and Tina (Rich) Bronisz; grandchildren: Heather (Jay), Erica (Dave), Jeffrey, Christi Anne (Nate), Stan R. II, April (Tres), Mathew, Serena Marie, Tricia (Kevin), Breanne (Bob) and Jonathan (Meghan); 10 great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents Vicy and Peter Oakley; brothers: Robert, Bill and John Oakley.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home & Crematory 14 Kennedy Ave Schererville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:00 AM DIRECTLY at St. Mary Catholic Church 525 N. Broad St. Griffith with Fr. Theodore Mens officiating. At Rest Chapel Lawn Cemetery Schererville.

Iona was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 369 Ladies Auxiliary. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care provided by Munster Med-Inn's 2nd floor nurses and aides and the staff of Hospice of the Calumet Area. Iona's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her the greatest joy of all and she cherished every moment spent with them. Although she is no longer with us physically, Iona will remain in our hearts forever and always shine down on all of us from heaven.
