Matriarch Irene Zimmer, age 98, of Schererville, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 17, 2015. She is survived by her sons Joseph (Laura), Ivan (Sally), Ira (special friend Rhonda Fehr) and Jason (Jill). Grandchildren William (Vicki) Penman, Christine (Brian) Szczerbowski, Lucretia (Robert) Biancardi, Eric Penman, Terasa (Greg) Smith, Laura Lawson, Kimberly (Eric) Aulenback, Thomas (Deanna) Zimmer, Amber (Mike) Quirk, Rebecca Zimmer, Michael (Christa) Zimmer, Andrew Zimmer, Joshua, Sebastian and Nicol Zagarena. Adding to her enormous love for family were her 31 great- grandchildren and 12 great great-grandchildren and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Irene is also survived by her brother, Richard A. Claire (late Vera) and brother in law Chick (late Margaret) Jacobs. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph E. Zimmer, daughter and son-in-law Janet and Bill Penman, brother Harvey H. Claire (Elizabeth), Brothers-in-law Andrew Zimmer, Norbert (Jeannette) Zimmer, Fr. Thomas Zimmer.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 23, 2015 starting with 9:45 a.m. prayers at the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN 46375 (corner of Main and Kennedy) with 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Rev. Martin Dobrynski officiating. At rest St. Michael Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 2:00 till 8:00 p.m. at the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home. 5:00 p.m. wake service.

Irene was active in the Schererville Community. She supported and belonged to many organizations and committees. She was a faithful and active member of St. Michael's Church and was active in the Mystical Rose Rosary prayer group. Irene had a true love for life, family and faith. She loved to travel and was very proud of the fact that she had been to all 50 states.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, cards and games, the Cubs and Blackhawks and loved spending time with family and friends.
