James “Jim” Allan Szubryt
Age 84, of Highland, Indiana, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Szubryt (nee Martin); loving children, James Paul (Sue) Szubryt, Kathleen (John) Knoppe, Michael (Tracey) Szubryt, Robert Szubryt, and Adam (Ellen) Szubryt; 17 precious grandchildren and 8 adored great-grandchildren; loving siblings, Joseph (Poungpet) Szubryt, Bernadette “Bernie” (Ted) Slupik; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Marianne (Thomas “Tom”) Ozahanics; parents, Stanley “Red” and Valeria Szubryt.
Jim was a proud graduate of Fenger High School in Chicago, Class of 1957. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. Jim dedicated 36 years of hard work to Jewel Foods as a market manager, retiring in 2001. He also worked 20 years driving for Tri-State Hose and Fittings.
A devoted man of faith, Jim was an active and dedicated member of St. James the Less Church, where he found great comfort and community. In his free time, he was an avid fisherman who loved boating, spending time with his family, and especially cherished moments with his grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Solan – Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave, Schererville, Indiana. Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. James the Less Church with Rev. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating. Jim will Lie-In-State at the church from 9:30 AM, until time of service. Burial will be private and entrusted to Solan – Pruzin Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to the St. James Food Pantry.
Jim will be truly missed and remembered for the love he shared with all who knew him.
