Obituary

Janice "Jan" A. Korwek (nee Hanzi)

Age 82 of Highland, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.  Jan is survived by her three children Karen (Tom) Cumbee, Kathy Korwek, Jerry "Rob" (Lynn) Korwek; brother, Nick (Ray Friedeck) Hanzi; grandchildren Tom Jr. (Becky) Cumbee, Ryan (Rebecca) Cumbee, Sean (Carolyn) Cumbee, Nicholas (Morgan) Davidson, Benny Davidson, Luke Davidson, Ethan, and Joshua Korwek; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Jerome "Jerry"; and parents, Nicholas and Antoinette Hanzi.

Janice graduated from Morton High School in 1958.  Jan was an honor roll student and twirled a baton as a majorette for 4 years. She loved music and she enjoyed dancing, playing the cello and the violin.

After high school Jan worked at Youngstown Steel where she met her future husband, Jerome Korwek.  They got married in 1963 and had 3 children.

While raising her children, Jan started her own retail clothing business out of her home. She had many customers over the years.  She continued her clothing business online around 2010 and at last count, Jan had over 29,000 followers on Poshmark. She truly was a strong independent business woman who was ahead of her time.

Jan had many other interests as well.  Bowling, ceramics, crosswords puzzles, reading, jeopardy and jewelry making to name a few.

Jan was so strong in her faith, a devout Catholic and a decades long parishioner of Our Lady of Grace in Highland, IN.

More than anything, Jan's love for her family was unconditional.  She was always helping kids and grandkids with homework and school projects.  She just enjoyed spending time with them and they enjoyed her.  She had many gifts and talents that she shared with others. No Christmas tree in our family was complete without Jan's touch.  She could take anything you gave her and turn it into a beautiful work of art.

Our hearts are broken because we will be without her.  However, we will find comfort knowing we were so very blessed to have had this beautiful and wonderful woman in our lives as a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
