Janice V. Vargo

age 73, of Griffith, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024. She is survived by her son, Larry J. (Mary Jo) Vargo; sister, Joyce (late, Kenneth) Hathaway; granddaughter, Mary Alice Vargo (Hunter Harris), Margaret Elizabeth Vargo, and Madison Ann Vargo; and niece, Merri V. Hathaway (Jon Willis). Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Vargo; and husband Larry Dean Perkins.

Janice graduated with a bachelor's degree in theology from St. Joseph College in Whiting, IN. She taught for the Archdiocese of Chicago and taught religion at St. Mary's School as well as St. Joseph's School in Hammond.

Janice's greatest fulfillment came from being a grandmother. Her granddaughters were the light of her life and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her love, wisdom, and unwavering support shaped their lives in profound ways, and her memory will forever be a source of strength and guidance for them. Her kind heart and gentle spirit touched all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM at Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN. A Funeral Mass Celebrating Janice's Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 directly at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 525 N. Broad St., Griffith, IN, with Rev. Theodore Mens and Rev. Alphonse Skerl officiating. Janice will lie in state at the church from 9:30 AM until time of Mass. Burial to follow at St. John / St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Hammond, IN.
