Jerome “Jerry” A. Nowak

Jerome A. Nowak, age 89, of Griffith, Indiana, formerly of Hegewisch, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Phyllis Nowak (nee Hoven); devoted children, Donna (late, Terry) Redmond, Sue (Richard) Bocian, Jerry – Lani Velez Nowak, and Ann (Greg) Twardosz; precious grandchildren, Stephanie (Justin) Gardner and Jerome Matthew Nowak; dearest brother, Claude (Theresa) Nowak; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Xavier Nowak.

Jerry was born on February 1, 1937. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He went on to dedicate many years of service to R.R. Donnelley, Chicago Division, retiring on February 19, 1993. Jerry enjoyed the simple pleasures in life-he loved fishing, spending quiet time working on jigsaw puzzles, and being with his family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 10, 2026, DIRECTLY at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave, Highland, IN 46322, with Fr. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00 AM until time of Mass. Services conclude at the church and entrusted to Solan Pruzin Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Wounded Warriors, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Shriners Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.

Jerry will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
