Merrillville
Jerry W. Krysa
Age 78, of Merrillville, formerly of Hammond, Indiana passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
Jerry's family was his greatest happiness and source of pride.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Krysa (nee Matusik); children, Allison (Brian) Prisby, Caryn (Fred) Duke, and Matthew; precious grandchildren, William, Benjamin, Molly, Trevor, Jack, and Henry; sisters, Irene Krysa, and Dr. Patricia (Neil Weber) Krysa; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Iwan and Maria Krysa; parents-in-love, John "Tuffy" and Sylvia Matusik; and sons, John and Michael.
Jerry was born on January 10, 1948 in Regensburg, Germany. In 1954, along with his parents and sister, Irene, he boarded the S.S. America and arrived at Ellis Island. Their family then settled in Hammond, IN. He was deeply proud of his Ukrainian heritage and his family's story. He was a 1966 graduate of Hammond High School and subsequently earned his bachelor's degree from Purdue University. On March 3, 1973, he married Margaret and they shared over 53 years together as they raised and nurtured their 5 children. He worked as a purchasing agent in both the healthcare and manufacturing industries for many years.
Jerry's family was his greatest happiness and source of pride. He loved them beyond measure and worried about them incessantly. He taught them the value of hard work, being a good person, and always choosing to do the right thing. He was wickedly smart with a quick-witted humor. Jerry enjoyed the simple things in life like a good pierogi, fresh bread, and a PBR. He enjoyed maintaining a pristine lawn and automobiles, following sports (especially various region teams), and puppy videos. He was always ready to share a story or provide some insight on something he had researched. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
