Jesus G. Herrera

Age 84, of Hammond, IN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife Eladia G. Herrera (nee Garcia); sons, Noe (Rosa) Herrera and Mauro (Liz) Herrera; daughters, Emma (Jesus) Salazar and Eladia (Humberto) Garcia; grandchildren, Brandon Salazar, Lisa Leiva, Selina Garcia, Monica Herrera, Victoria DeFrank, Caitlin Herrera, Ashley Herrera and Mckenzie Herrera; great- grandchildren, Lucia, Julian, Nora, Enzo, Elena, Eli and Rosalie. They will cherish his memory and legacy he leaves behind.

Jesus was born and raised in Sandias Tepehuanes, Mexico, to the late Jose De La Luz Herrera and Maria (nee Granillo) Herrera. He was one of six siblings and is survived by three loving brothers and one loving sister. He was preceded in death by his parents and one of his sisters.

Jesus spent over 35 years working as a dedicated crane operator before retiring. He took great pride in his work and carried that same dedication into his personal life. Jesus had a deep love for the outdoors-he especially enjoyed gardening and spending time working in his yard. His home was a reflection of his care, pride, and love for nature.

A man full of spirit and joy, Jesus was known for his carefree spirit and love of music. He was the life of the party-always ready with a story, a song, or a smile. His presence brought light to ever room, and his memory will continue to comfort those who knew and loved him.

A Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 25 at 10:00 AM directly at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 7113 Columbia Ave., Hammond, IN 46324.  Burial will follow at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond, IN.
