Obituary

Jill Margala (nee Meyer), age 61, of Schererville, Indiana. Born on September 19, 1964 in Palatine, Illinois, she passed away on January 1, 2026 surrounded by family and friends, after living a life of faith, defined by caring for and helping others.

A graduate of Lake Forest College, Jill was a caring grade school teacher before moving into the corporate world. Her work for Allstate and Lee Publications was marked by solving the needs of her clients and customers, making sure that their concerns were heard and met.

It was during her time living in Chicago’s northwest suburbs that she met the love of her life, Robert Margala. Together, they explored the joys of hiking, camping, boating, birding, and traveling, especially to places that were important in exploring their faith. Jill immersed herself in the life of the St. Michael Archangel parish community as a member of the choir, Respect Life Ministry, and Bell Choir. Her joy for life and freely listening to the stories of all those around her enriched the friendships that she made wherever she went.

Jill was a lifelong musician of various talents and a member of many singing groups and choirs.

These included the Stephen Foster Singers and the Heraldry Guard Marching Band at Crystal Lake South High School, the First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake Alleluia Sound, the Immanuel United Church of Christ Upper Room Voices Choir, and most recently as a beloved member of the Saint John the Evangelist Life in the Spirit Praise Choir.

As an active and decades long member of the International P.E.O. Sisterhood, she traveled to several national conventions both as chapter delegate and president. Jill always looked forward to her monthly meetings and luncheons with her friends in P.E.O., enjoying the fellowship of her many sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Deanna Meyer, and a niece, Danielle Meyer. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert, her brother, Jerry (Cathy) Meyer, and her nephew Andrew (Katherine Mockler) Meyer, as well as numerous cousins, and a legion of friends throughout the area.
