Joan L. Thompson "Joanie T. " (née Magda) age 85, of Dyer, formerly of Hammond, Indiana, passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 13, 2023. Loving mother of Rex (Laura), Debbie (Dave) Hamm, Bob (Beth), Kathy (Mike) Prendergast and Tom (Kim Otero); cherished grandmother of Chris (Sam), Bill (Megan), Ryan (Robert), Kyle, Ben (Matt), Chloe, Morgan, Kirk, Matthew (MacKenzie), Nicholis and Olivia; loving great grandmother of Mason and Barrett; dear in-laws Pat (late, Jim) Jones, Phil (Penny), and Sandy (Lynn Anderson). And dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rex; parents, Walter and Magdalene Magda; brother, Walter; dear sister Marcy Koller and beloved twin sister, Jane Bohling.

Joan was a graduate of Hammond High School, active in Woodmar baseball and Gavit booster club. Joan loved celebrating the holidays and was known for her beautiful decorations. Joan enjoyed hosting parties and family gatherings where she prepared delicious meals, most notably her sausage and sauerkraut. Joan was a devoted employee of Dixon's Florist where she was well known for her warmth and outgoing personality.
