Joanna Pokrywczynski nee Sestito

Age 85, of Hegewisch, late of Highland, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017. Joanna is survived by her children: Frank (Pam) Pokrywczynski, John (Ann) Pokrywczynski and Roseann (Tom Werkowski) Zawistowski; grandchildren: Stacey, Gina, Toni (Brandon), Ryan (Karen), Jaimee (John), Nikki, Danielle and Sarah; nine great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; sisters Carmela (Lonnie) and Rose (Red); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her loving husband Frank Pokrywczynski Sr, her grandson Zak Zawistowski, her siblings: Marie, Betty and Nancy.

Joanna was a woman of deep faith who loved her family dearly and nurtured them with a full heart, a warm home and homecooked meals. The family always looked forward to her meatballs, her sauce and her Italian cookies. She joyously celebrated the holidays, especially the Christmas season, surrounded by those she loved. Joanna met her loving husband Frank while dancing in Chicago and they continued dancing  together through 57 years of marriage.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 2:00- 8:00 PM at the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home Crematory 14 Kennedy Ave Schererville. Wake service 3:00 PM Wednesday. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 beginning with 9:15 AM prayers the funeral home for a 10:00 AM Mass at St. James the Less Catholic Church 9640 Kennedy Ave Highland with Fr. Keith Virus officiating. Joanna will be laid to rest with Frank at Holy Cross Cemetery Calumet City, IL.
