John A. Earl

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of John A. Earl, 61, of Hammond, IN. John passed away April 17, 2025 in Boston, MA surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Jen Earl, beloved older brothers Jimmy and Jerry Earl, father and mother-in-law Lou and Carole Rodriguez and niece Jeneane Paul. John is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Lora and cherished daughters Amber and Lily Earl. His memory will be carried on by his sisters Jan (Jim) Paul, Judy (Money) Garcia, sister-in-law Yolanda Earl, brother-in-law Deron Rodriguez, God daughters Jennifer Prince and Olivia Padilla and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. John was a lifelong Hammond resident and a class of '82 graduate of Gavit High School where he won the Donald E. Gavit Award and was All-Conference in basketball, baseball and football.

John was a family-man and had a huge heart. When he met the love of his life, Lora in 1984 no one could have guessed how intertwined their families would become over the years. John was everyone's favorite uncle, cousin and friend. His daughters were his greatest gift, and he was always up for anything with them. Whether it was coaching them in sports, road trips, Jonas Bros. concerts, fishing, shopping or just being silly together, John was the ultimate "Girl Dad". Many family trips to Disney World made him a "Disney Dad" and he was featured as "Hoosier in the House" during ESPN week at Disney and got to interview Dr. J. He also got autographs and photos with Karl Malone and Donald Driver.

He had a sense of humor like no other and enjoyed making others laugh and smile. He really enjoyed getting together with his many Gavit friends to reminisce and tell stories. Many of these friendships spanned from childhood and were dear to John's heart.

John enjoyed family holidays, BBQs and pool days and spending time gardening and working in his yard. He loved being outdoors with his pup Hippie. John was a lover of all sports, but especially Notre Dame football, the Jordan-era Bulls and Da Bears. Most recently he enjoyed cheering on the Indiana Fever with his daughters.

Although he is gone, John will live on in the hearts of his many loved ones. His family and friends will truly miss his homemade chocolate chip cookies and catch phrases. His zest for life will be carried on through his girls. And we'll always remember, "This one's on the house!"

A Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave. Schererville, IN. Services conclude at the funeral home.
