John Edward Madrigal, of Schererville, formerly of Griffith, IN passed away peacefully on Thursday, April, 23, 2026 at the age of 88.

He was the devoted husband of 68 years to the love of his life, Dolores “Lola” Madrigal (nee Corona). Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and services to others. He is survived by his loving children, Richard John (Mary Elizabeth) Madrigal, and Gina Marie (Justin) Crouthamel; precious grandchildren, Samantha Kyle Madrigal and Jeremy Leyden Crouthamel; loving sisters, Guadalupe Vega and Mary Louise Silva; many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws who will miss him dearly. John is preceded in death by his parents, Carmen Juarez Madrigal and Louis Ortiz Madrigal; sister, Anita (still living, Alvin) Madrigal Thomas.

John was born in Council Grove, Kansas, in 1937. He earned his Master’s in Science & Education Degree from Purdue Calumet. He dedicated 37 years of service to Inland Steel, working his way into management, where he was respected for his hard work and commitment.

John lived a life of volunteering, education, and public service. He was deeply involved with the Catholic Diocese. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a devoted member of St. Michael Church, where he was active in Hospitality Ministries.

John was an avid Purdue sports fan and enjoyed gardening in his free time. He found great joy in cheering on his favorite teams, tending to his garden, and spending time with those he loved.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, Schererville, IN 46375. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 directly at St. Michael Archangel Catholic Church, 1 Wilhelm Street, Schererville, IN with Rev. Martin J. Dobrzynski officiating. Services will conclude at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael Archangel Church.

John’s kindness, faith, and dedication to his family and community will be remembered always.
