John A. Sorota

age 82, of Highland, IN, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024. He is survived by his loving children: Susan (Aaron) Harris, John (Ann) Sorota and Nancy (Tom) Poznick; grandchildren, Brenna and Aaron "AJ" Harris and Nadia Poznick; sister, Helen (late, Norbert) Lewandowski; nieces, Marchell (Bob) Barkey and Colette Lewandowski; sister-in-law, Laurie (Jim) Gorski and their children: Donna Zimmerman, Jamie Poczekay, Jennifer Herma; and many cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Judith;  and parents, John and Mary Sorota.

John was a dedicated physics and math teacher at Whiting High School for 41 years. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and music. John was a lifelong Chicago White Sox and Bears fan.

He was an incredibly caring person and will be missed by so many.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2024 DIRECTLY at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave, Highland, IN with Rev. Gregory A. Bim-Merle officiating. Burial to follow at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond, IN.
