John Michael Voyak Sr.

age 72, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017. John is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dianna (nee Jelenek); his sons, John Jr. (Tina) and Michael (Judith); his sister, Christine (Barry) Swisher; grandsons, Steven, James, and Michael; nephew, Barry (Amy) Swisher; and nieces, Nicole and Kelly Swisher.  He is preceded in death by parents; John and Marie Voyak; and sister, Patricia Voyak.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1 W. Wilhelm St., Schererville, IN. Prayers will start at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home Monday morning at 10:00 AM and John will be laid to rest directly after service at St. Michael Cemetery in Schererville, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home , 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN 46375 (corner of Main St. and Kennedy Ave.) from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

John was a lifelong Schererville resident and parishioner of St. Michael's Catholic Church graduating from St. Michael's Catholic School and Dyer Central High School (1962).  John retired from GATX Rail in East Chicago.  He was a member of the National Guard, 113th Engineers' Division.  John played lead guitar with the" Impalas" and "Bob and That's Life". John cherished his family, his Croatian heritage, the great outdoors, and Tamburitza music.  He will be missed dearly.
