Joseph J. Gonino, age 89, of Schererville, IN, was called by the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2024. He is survived by his children: Joseph (Anita) Gonino, Jr. and David (Susan) Gonino;  grandchildren: Lauren, Joseph III, Andrew, Nicholas, Kathleen, and Timothy; and great grandchildren: Jasper, Geneva, Ada and Penelope. Also surviving Joseph are his late wife Jean's family: Richard Verduzco, Albert Verduzco, Jacqueline Verduzco and Michelle Verduzco; Grandchildren, Alicea, Anthony and Alyssa. Preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Susan Gonino; parents, Dominic and Nellie; and sisters, Mary and Christine.

Joseph was born on March 10, 1935 in Watertown, New York. He worked at the General Electric Company for many years, retiring as an executive in 1990. He loved music, and in his early life, played drums and stand-up bass in a small jazz band in and around Watertown. He loved the outdoors, and taught both his sons how to fish in the lakes of the Adirondack Mountains. He was an active volunteer in the St. John Catholic Church food pantry in Encinitas, California and later in life, joined the St. Michael the Archangel Church Choir, where he sang with his wife Jean for many years. Joseph was a dedicated family man, and his visits with his grand- and great-grandchildren were particularly special times for him.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Avenue, Schererville, IN 46375. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 1 W. Wilhelm St., Schererville, IN. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
