Joseph C. Piontek

age 98, of Highland, IN passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016. He is survived by his loving twin daughters: Debra Timmons and Patricia (Lee) Forszt; 2 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Stella (late Leo) Lacny, Lorraine (Harold) Feneck and Antoinette (late Mike) Mihal; brother, Chester (late Theresa) Piontek; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Mary (late Wayne) Pritchard; brother-in-law, Harold (late Theresa) Benedict. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 62 years, Ida (nee Casko); 3 sisters, Helen (late John) Pankiewicz, Ann (late Rennie) Hubka, and Sophia Piontek, as well as his brother, Edward (late Lauretta) Piontek.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am. Monday, March 21, 2016 at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN (corner of Main and Kennedy), with Pastor Warren Zehrung officiating. Joe will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Funeral Home from 2:00 till 6:00 pm.

Joe grew up in Glen Park (Gary), and was a 1936 graduate of Lew Wallace High School. He volunteered at the Civilian Conservation Corps in Pocatello, Idaho. Joe proudly served in WWII as a Navy Merchant Marine in the Pacific Theatre including the second wave assault in Okinawa, and attained the rank of Carpenter's Mate Second Class. Joe worked at US Steel in Gary as a Merchant Mill Metallurgical Quality Assurance Inspector with 47 years of service.
