Kathleen “Kathy” J. (nee Abraham) Swinford
Kathleen J. Swinford, age 85, of Highland, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
Kathleen is survived by her loving daughters, Debra (late, Mike) Swinford-Allender, Cindy (James) Rodgers, and Linda (Joe) Kartje. She was the proud grandmother of Christopher Swinford, Jenna (John) Gensic, Joseph R. Kartje, Benjamin (Lindsay) Kartje, Zachary (Kirstie) Kartje, Alexa and Sophia Kartje; precious great-grandchildren, Mikan, Anica, Drexler, Finley Gensic, Neil, and Noah Kartje; brother, Robert “Bob” (Carole) Abraham. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Barney Swinford; cherished parents, Alexander and Catherine (nee Lorcenz) Abraham; precious infant brother, Jerome Abraham.
Kathleen dedicated over 40 years of her life working as a public accountant. Outside of her career, she found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time by the water. Kathleen also loved cooking, crocheting, and especially playing cards. Her card games were her favorite pastime that she delighted in sharing with family and friends.
Kathleen will be remembered for the love she shared with her family and those who knew her, creating memories that will endure for generations to come. Her kind spirit and gentle presence will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 DIRECTLY at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave, Highland, IN 46322, with Fr. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00 AM until time of Mass. Services conclude at the church and entrusted to Solan Pruzin Funeral Home.
