LaVergne was born on December 18, 1925 to William F. and Cecelia (Trzebiatowski ) Zick of Calumet City, IL. Her father was Mayor of Calumet City from 1935-1937 & 1937-1941. LaVergne was a very positive upbeat business woman. She always looked on the bright side of things in life. Often she was like a second mother to her 22 nieces and nephews and enjoyed time with her family and friends especially at summer picnics or at her parents farm in Bark River, Michigan. To this day many friends and family still visit or call her to chat about their lives and would find council from her wise advice.
Her faith was a very important part of her life. She volunteered her time to various projects at St. Victor Church in Calumet City. She was a member of the Parish Choir and Legion of Mary. Her work with the Legion took her on mission trips to spread the message of God's love.
Like her sister Florence, LaVergne was an active member of the Calumet City Historical Society.
While living at St. Patrick's Residence LaVergne visited other residents who were unable to join in activities due to their illness. She would encourage them to talk about their lives and uplift their spirits. At "Happy Hour" residents would gravitate to LaVergne and Bob and enjoyed sharing stories of their lives and share some laughter. LaVergne felt that everyone has interesting stories of their lives to share.
A service to celebrate her life will be arranged in the near future.
