Leslie Ann Gonzalez (nee Sokit)

Age 76, of East Chicago, IN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 6, 2026. She was born to the late, Chester and Clara Sokit and lived a life defined by dedication to family, hard work, and compassion for others.

Leslie worked for many years in the construction industry, where she was employed in payroll. She retired from the American Group of Constructors and was known for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and reliability.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jesse Gonzalez; and her brother, Steven Sokit.

Leslie is survived by her loving children, Anthony (Elizabeth) Gutierrez and Vicki (Fernando) Garcia; her cherished grandchildren, Graciela Garcia, Gabriella Garcia, Anthony Gutierrez Jr., Clara Gutierrez, Adam Yzaguirre, Felicia Villanueva, and Michael (Kaitlin) Larson; and her treasured great-grandson, Jaydon Hernandez. She is also survived by her brother, John (Mary) Sokit.

Leslie had a deep love for animals, which brought her great joy throughout her life.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN, Funeral Service at 12 noon with Father Jeffrey D. Burton officiating. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leslie’s memory to the ASPCA, honoring her lifelong love for animals.
