Lorraine S. (Loda) Balka

East Chicago, IN

Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on July 1, 2019 at the age of 86.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her sister, Theresa Vincent-Rines; her mother, Anna Loda, and many brothers and sisters-in-law.

Lorraine is lovingly remembered by her sons, Chad Balka, Curtis (Margie) Balka; her daughter, Kim (Edward) Jayjack; grandchildren, Andre (Clare), Hannah, and Madeline Balka, Kasia and Jocelyn Jayjack; her brother, Alex (June) Loda; her sisters-in-law Theresa Revere and Norbie Balka, and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was born on November 9, 1932 in East Chicago, Indiana. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. She then continued on to run the East Chicago Police Credit Union for many years.

Lorraine enjoyed gardening, shopping, and spending time with her family at their summer home. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Parish and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 369 for over 50 years. She will be remembered for her wonderful personality and humor.

A Funeral Memorial Mass Celebrating Lorraine's Life will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1 W. Wilhelm St., Schererville, IN. with Rev. Martin Dobrzynski officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:30 AM until time of service and burial directly after at St. John Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Hammond, IN.
