Manuel "Mel" David Perez

Age 71, of East Chicago, IN, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. Manuel was the devoted papa to his son, Freddy (Olga) Perez of Merrillville; daughters, Rosalinda Perez of East Chicago, Kayla Perez, Sarah (Aaron) Schwartz and Samantha (Jon) Groen all of Whiting; grandchildren, Jackie (Sergio), Ashley, Arikka, Aaron, Kaiden, Kameron, Adalinn and Ethan; great grandchildren, Wednesday and Cameron; and compadre, Gilbert Garza.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ann Fernandez and Manuel Perez.

A Memorial Service Celebrating Mel's Life will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 7:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home , 14 Kennedy Ave (corner of Main and Kennedy) in Schererville, IN with Rev. Mark Pavlina officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Services conclude at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to Multiple Sclerosis would be appreciated.

Mel was a 1965 graduate of Washington High School in East Chicago. He was a United States Air Force Veteran. He retired from Inland Steel after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Hermanos Group in E.C. Mel was a kind, thoughtful man who was always making people laugh. He was deeply committed to his children, grandchildren and friends.
