Marcella “Marcie” M. Lash (nee Filek)

Age 101, of Calumet City, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

From a young age, Marcie was hardworking, devoted to her family, and extremely giving.

Marcie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and cherished member of her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Denise Mattix; precious grandchildren, Kurt (Candice), Keith (Heather), Ami (Casey), James (late, Lawana), Tracy (Jeff), Hollie, Kelley and Melanie (Michael); cherished great-grandchildren, Riley, Hudson, Colton, Mia, Raegan, Carly, Jimmy, Jake, Zach, Corey, Ashley, Christian and Carmen; and great-great granddaughter, Addison.

Marcie was good at anything she tried, including square dancing, cooking, sewing, and gardening. She found great joy in dancing, spending time with her family, and had a deep love for animals. Above all, she treasured her grandchildren and the many wonderful memories they created together.

From a young age, Marcie was hardworking, devoted to her family, and extremely giving. She began helping at her mother’s grocery store at just 9 years old. By age 14, she was helping run the store full-time, learning the value of hard work and dedication early in life. Later, she worked alongside her beloved husband, Edward, at their full-service gas station and garage in Calumet City.

Marcie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Edward Lash; son, Ron (still living, Vickie) Lash; daughter, Donna (late, Wayne) Wiarda; parents, Thesen and Hattie Filek; and her siblings. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Solan – Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave, Schererville, IN. Friends may visit 10:00 AM until time of service. Private burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Services are entrusted to Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home.
