Maria De La Rosa (nee Vela)

Age 83, of Hammond, IN, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 19, 2023.  Maria is survived by her loving children: Amanda Abraham, Aminta (Randall) Noble, Vincent (Lori) De La Rosa III, Katrina (Christopher) Kendrick, Toni (Richard) Duttweiler and Mary Pitts; grandchildren, Amber, Eryk, Rita, Monica, Olivia, Anna and Eve; great-grandchildren, Gunner and Brynn; siblings, Carmen (late, Baldemar "Chico") Flores, Angie (late, Joe) Vega and Richard (late, Doran) Vela; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Vincent; son, Armando; parents, Cruz and Francisca Vela; and brothers: Tony, Charlie, and Frank Vela.

Maria's kitchen was a place where family and friends would gather, eagerly anticipating the delicious meals she lovingly prepared. She had an incredible passion for gardening, coloring, and was an avid animal lover. However, Maria's greatest role was that of being a mother and grandmother. She was the embodiment of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. She was, without a doubt, the best grandma anyone could ask for, making cherished memories that will be treasured forever.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM directly at St. Mary Catholic Church, 525 N. Broad St., Griffith, IN 46319. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial to follow at St. John and Joseph Cemetery in Hammond, IN. Solan-Pruzin Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
