Marta Shuya-Belkairous

Age 68, of Munster, IN, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023. Marta is survived by her children, Natalie Belkairous, Adam (Melissa) Belkairous and Joey (Tesi) Belkairous; brother, George (late Maggie) Shuya; brother-in-law, Rabah Belkairous and sister-in-law, Rhabia Belkairous. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Ali Belkairous, and parents, William "Vasyl" and Natalie "Natalka" Shuya.

Marta was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Hammond, IN. She grew up being actively involved in her community, most proudly as a mentor and counselor to countless individuals across the country through the Ukrainian Scouting Organization, Plast, which she was involved in for more than five decades. Her Ukrainian heritage was a significant part of her life and she made sure to raise her children in the same way. Marta briefly left the Midwest to attend the University of Pittsburgh before returning to finish her studies at Indiana University, where she completed her Master's Degree and ultimately met her husband, Ali. She dedicated her career to serving others and did so across collegiate recruitment, politics, and financial services. Above all else, Marta enjoyed spending time with her family - she was a dedicated, loving daughter, wife, and mother.

A Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home , 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, with a Panahida at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 5, DIRECTLY at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, 8624 White Oak Ave, Munster, IN 46321. Marta will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until time of services. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Crown Point, IN.
