Obituary

Mary Ann F. Brian

Age 91, of Highland, IN, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

She is survived by her two daughters, Joene Rosko and Sharon Brian; one son, Ronald J. (Kim) Brian; six grandchildren, Jason (Liz) Rosko, Jamie (Jesse) Rodgers, Ashley (Mark) Balicki, Jerrett (Emily) Tite, Taylor (Joe) Martinez, and Blake Brian, ten great-grandchildren: Mason and Max Rodgers, Caroline and Will Rosko, Charlotte, Fiona, and Jack Tite, and Jude, Miles, and Colette Balicki; sister-in-law, Pat (Teri Crowley) Obrenski; and her son-in laws, Jerry and Carlos, with whom she remained close with. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, brother, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, cousins, and many friends.

Mary Ann had many passions that filled her life with joy. She loved to read, and she loved to golf—where she made countless friends on the course. A wonderful entertainer, she welcomed family and friends with warmth and hospitality, always making every gathering special. Whether she was called Mary Ann, Mare, Mother, Mom, Grandma, Brian, Matza, Francis, or any other playful name, she had a special relationship with them all.

Mary Ann was especially proud of her volunteer work at Munster Community Hospital in the NICU, where she cherished the time spent helping little ones and their families. One of the greatest blessings of her life was being able to see her great-grandchild every day while volunteering alongside her cherished friend, Pam, who was a cuddler. Mary Ann deeply treasured the frequent visits with her great-grandchildren and the check-ins and calls from her grandchildren, each moment bringing her happiness and pride.

Mary Ann was known for her compassion, generosity, and giving spirit—always ready to help others, yet strong, feisty, and a fighter to the very end. She will be deeply and sadly missed by all who were blessed to know her. Something she often heard from her husband and frequently repeated to her loved ones with a smile was, "Getting old isn't for sissies."

A private burial service will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where Mary Ann will be reunited with her husband.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Veterans Organization, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Riley Children's Hospital.
