Mary Lynn Spear, age 65, passed away on June 19, 2025, in Hammond, Indiana. Born on April 30, 1960, Mary was a lifelong resident of Hammond. She attended Hammond High School and graduated from Purdue University Northwest with a degree in early childhood education.
Mary dedicated much of her life to the care and well-being of animals. Her journey began as a volunteer with Humane Indiana, where her compassion and dedication became evident. She later worked with the intake department and PAWS Resale Shoppe. Her work reflected not only her love for animals but also her unwavering kindness. She had the ability to connect with rescue animals requiring extra patience and understanding.
Mary found joy in simple pleasures. She enjoyed crocheting intricate patterns, getting lost in books, solving jigsaw puzzles, watching true crime shows, and tending to her garden and houseplants.
Mary's legacy is one of compassion, gentleness, and steadfast dedication. She will be remembered by those who knew her as a gentle soul whose actions made a lasting difference.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN. A Service Celebrating Mary's life will be held at 7:00 PM. Services conclude at the funeral home.
