Merlin E. Schneider

age 79, of Hessville, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017. Merle is survived by his children Mickey Schneider and Ralph Speelman; grandchildren: Jeremy (April Yankovich) Speelman, James (Shannon Trusty) Speelman, Misty (Matt) Mitch, Ted Davis, April Davis and Jacob Wingerter; great grandchildren: Hanah, Jeremy Jr., Chloe, Parker and Annalise; brother Lyle (Carol) Schneider and sister Joanna McGauvran; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Merlin was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years LaVerne, his daughter Felicia Schneider and four siblings.

Merle was a man of the kindest nature, a fun and comical character, who would always think of doing for others before himself. A generous man and true of heart, Merlin's compassion and empathy for those who are blessed to know him was unparalleled. At the age of 18, the moment he was able, Merlin joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for a decade around the world from Greenland to Guam. Once his service to his country was fulfilled, Merlin came home, married his dear LaVerne in 1968 and they spent the next 41 years together. Merlin was a Union Laborer and poured concrete for over 25 years and still remained active in the Concrete business for many years after retirement. Merlin lived his life with love in his heart for all and as our family celebrates that he is back at LaVerne's side we will dearly miss him every day.

Friends may gather with the family on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 12:00 – 3:30 PM at the Solan Pruzin Funeral Home 7109 Calumet Ave Hammond, IN. Prayers and memories will be shared at 3:30 PM on Saturday with Bishop Ronald Williams officiating. Merlin and LaVerne will be laid to rest together at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.
