Michael Henry Maurice 79, respectably left this life on July 2 at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana. He was surrounded by family, love and laughter.
Mike was born March 1, 1944 in Cleveland, OH. He was the oldest of 11 children and graduated from Hickory High school in 1962. Michael joined the United States Air force, Wild Blue Yonder, in December 1962. After his honorable discharge, Mike pursued a career as an electrician in the steel industry. He worked flawlessly with great work ethic and notoriety until retirement. Mike enjoyed sharing his skills in electrical work and helping others with projects.
Other than electrical work, Michael enjoyed many different hobbies. He coached his daughter's softball team, brought home random pets to his wife, woodworking, and built RC planes. Although he was good at building/creating anything made of wood and displayed craftsmanship with RC planes, he was not great at piloting and many RC planes met their disastrous fate.
At times he was known as the shade tree mechanic, not because he enjoyed auto maintenance as a hobby, but only because the family car was broken. Mike did fail at plumbing every time; a plumber he was not. Many items that he tried to "fix" could be found with electrical tape holding them together.
Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, always opening his home for their visits from out of town. Papa Mike also enjoyed taunting the grandchildren, and it is still a question which one is REALLY the favorite. He often told each of them they held this place.
He loved his wife, family, friends, country and displayed incredible character and kindness to everyone he met, never speaking an unkind word about anyone unless they absolutely deserved it. Mike always had a big smile, quick wit, and was at times a prankster. Mike lived a full life of love and laughter, with so many family and friends who loved him tremendously.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Hank and Bernice (Wolford), brothers Pat Maurice, David Maurice, and Tom Maurice.
He is survived by his wife Donna Maurice of 33 loving, eventful, chaotic years that could have been a reality show and the extremely long list of siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren that he loved unconditionally and beamed with pride every time he spoke of any of them.
