Patty Jo (Patricia Joanne) Brody

Mom loved to play golf and tennis, but most of all, swimming, continuing until she was 88 years old.

Our loving mother passed away peacefully on the morning of June 12, 2026, into God’s embrace and is reunited with her beloved son, Donald.

Patty Jo was born in Walla Walla, Washington, and spent her first 14 years with her cherished Grandpa McDow, in Ellensburg, Washington, later moving to the Chicago area with her four stepsiblings, where she met her future husband. Several moves followed, and they settled in Schererville, Indiana, years later relocating to Payson, Arizona, to be close to her daughter Cyndi.

Patty Jo was the cherished mother to Barry (Tina), Cyndi (Mike), Dawn (Lex), Donald (Predeceased), Mark (Marcia), Kevin (April), 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Mom loved to play golf and tennis, but most of all, swimming, continuing until she was 88 years old. While living in Washington, she swam for the Olympic trials and missed by seconds. She continued to outswim all her children well into her 80’s.

On a side note, Mom taught her own children to swim by throwing them out of the boat. It was sink or swim time and it worked!

Mom also loved to dance, cook, and bake making wonderful memories with and for her family and friends. She gave of her time freely and often. Following her retirement from Inland Steel, she continued to work and volunteered at St. Maria Goretti, Humane Society, St. Philips, Meals-On-Wheels, and others.

Patty Jo lived a long-varied life, loving God, her family, and her pets, especially Fuzzy and Sophie.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 DIRECTLY at St. Maria Goretti, 500 Northgate Dr, Dyer, IN 46311, with Rev. Leonardo J. Gajardo officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:30 AM until time of Mass. Burial at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville, IN.
