Phyllis J. Burfield (nee Shoemaker)

age 94 passed away peacefully on Palm Sunday March 24, 2024. She is survived by her loving son, James (Nancy) Burfield Jr.; grandchildren, Erin (Costa) Marcotsis, James (Chelsa) Burfield, Cara (Bill) Chirstacakos; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was a life-time resident of Hammond. She retired from School City of Hammond. A member of Polish Women's Alliance 128. Phyllis was a volunteer at St. Margaret Mercy Health Care north campus receiving many awards for her service time.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Burfield Sr.; son Timothy Burfield; parents Wallace and Rose Shoemaker and brother Wally (Speed) Shoemaker.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 7109 Calumet Ave., HAMMOND, IN. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Thursday, April 4 DIRECTLY at St. John Bosco Church, 7113 Columbia Ave., Hammond, IN with Fr. Jeffrey D. Burton officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 9:30 AM until time of Mass. Burial to follow at St. John St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hammond Humane Society.
