Phyllis J. Sedlak (nee Kandalec)

Age 84, of Highland, Indiana formally of Whiting, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Phyllis is survived by her loving children, Anthony McKinley, Tami (Richard) Nott, Paul Sedlak, and Mary (Jonathan) Van Laten; precious grandchildren, Alexander, Aiden, and Megan Nott; and Rachel, Liam, and Ella Van Laten.

She was preceded in death by loving husband of 32 years, Benard Sedlak and her parents Anthony Kandalec and Jennie Kandalec (nee Wiak).

Phyllis was born and raised in Whiting and attended George Rogers Clark High School. She worked at many different jobs throughout her life, but her favorite job was at St. Margarets Hospital in Hammond where she met her beloved husband, Bernie. She was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and was their go-to lector for masses and funerals.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 10:30AM at Our Lady of Grace Church, 3025 Highway Ave., Highland, IN with Reverand Brian Chadwick officiating. Friends may visit the family directly at church Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial to follow at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond, IN.
